History of the Department
The Foreign languages chair was established in 1931, consisting of Ph.D Associate professor Yuldashev I, who was also the first head, Ph.D Associate professor Kadirov N, among others.In the years 1934-1935 N. Safarov ,and in 1935-1962 M.I.Saganovskiy headed the department of foreign languages. In 1962-1975 A.I.Scheulova was a leader of the department . During this period the teachers of the department taught Russian, Uzbek and foreign languages.In 1975 the department was transformed and divided into two departments: “Foreign languages” (German, French) and the “English language” department.In 1977 the department headed by N.S.Yusupov increased by another 5 people. The chair was divided into two departments. “Foreign languages”(German, French) and the “English language” department. A.Yusupov headed the department of “Foreign languages” and H.Haydarov headed the “English language” department.From 1978 to 1988 the head of the department was candidate of pedagogical science, associate professor M.F.Babajanova. Since 1988 the head of the department was the candidate of philological science, professor V.D.Musayeva and in 1991-1993 the department “Foreign languages” was headed by professor M.B.Niyazova.In 1993, by order of the university rector, two departments were formed on the basis of the department “Foreign languages”: the “English language” (head of the department was professor V.D.Musayeva) and the “Foreign languages” (head of the department was Kh..S.Maksudova).In 2003 according to the order of the university rector, the department was again reorganized into “Foreign languages” department and the senior teacher Kh.I. Alimova became the head of the department. After joining of the Aviation institute to the Tashkent State Technical University in 2008, one more department was created: “Foreign languages-2” and this department was headed by candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Sh.K.Alikhanova.In September 2011, according to the order of the university rector, the departments were merged into a single “Foreign languages”, and the head of the department was appointed Kh.I. Alimova.In the period from 2013 to 2014 the department was headed by associate professor N.K.Sobirova.September 2014, on the basis of the chair of “Foreign languages” TSTU were created two departments: the department of “Practical English” and “Foreign Languages”. The head of the department “Practical English” was appointed a senior teacher M.B. Ganikhanova. The chair “Foreign Languages” was headed by a senior teacher F.R.Jumanazarova.In August 2016, departments Foreign Languages and Practical English were merged into one “Foreign Languages” department. The head of this department was appointed a senior teacher M.B. Ganikhanova Today the Department staff consists of 35 Professors, 25 Teachers and 10 Senior Teachers.

Scientific and methodical work of the department
The department of foreign languages implements a wide range of new information and pedagogical technologies. The department’s teachers use various interactive methods such as Brainstorm, Mind map, Think spell, Learning together, Boomerang, Critical thinking, Jigsaw, Project method, Presentation and others. The use of information and pedagogical technologies makes it possible to involve 70-80% of students in the prosses of employment.Methodical seminars are regularly held at the department where current problems of modern teaching methods and linguistcs issue are discussed. The department conducts extensive work on attracting students to scientific research. In 2017-2018 academic years, defenses of graduate qualification works of bachelor’s and dissertations of undergraduates in English were defended.The university publishes scientific journals of national importance, and within the framework of cooperation with these publications, teachers of the department publish their scientific articles in this journals.Besides, teacher of the chair actively participate in scientific conferences in Tashkent.Teachers of the department are involved in teaching students with skills in foreign languages and preparing for publication of scientific articles in English. Their students show themselves in many competitions: writing articles on varying subjects, essays on topics and regularly presenting for others.To attract students to scientific and practical conferences, the winners are awarded.
