On December 7, 2019, a meeting of the Academic Council of the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov took place. The meeting’s agenda included the question “On conferring the title of Honorary Rector of Tashkent State Technical University to the President of Nagoya University Mr. Seiichi Matsuo”.
Rector of the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov Professor Turabjanov S.M. made a speech on this issue.
The speaker dwelt in detail on the biography of Professor Seiichi Matsuo, his great achievements in the full-scale intensification of cooperation between Uzbek and Japanese universities, in particular between Nagoya University and Islom Karimov Tashkent State Technical University in the field of educational, research and innovation.
Since the organization of the Uzbek-Japanese Youth Innovation Center at Tashkent State Technical University in 2016, the active support of the president of Nagoya University, Seichi Matsuo, has given new impetus to the further development of inter-university multilateral cooperation.
Another important step in building inter-university cooperation was the signing of a Memorandum and Agreement of Cooperation between Nagoya University and Tashkent State Technical University during the visit of Mr. Seichi Matsuo to Uzbekistan on August 29, 2018.
Rector S.Turabjanov I especially noted and once again expressed my sincere gratitude, dear President of Nagoya University, for the honor to visit the Republic of Uzbekistan, and also for the fact that this signed document has great historical significance in the development of scientific research at our universities.
Thanks were expressed to the Nobel Laureate Noyori Ryoji for the honor to visit Uzbekistan with Seichi Matsuo, thereby emphasizing respect for Tashkent State Technical University, the oldest in Central Asia.
A scientific symposium organized by the joint efforts of Nagoya University and Tashkent State Technical University and having become annual Academic weeks in Tashkent, with the participation of Japanese professors, would naturally not have taken place without the direct participation and patronage of the president of Nagoya University.
The number of teachers and students of the Tashkent State Technical University who have completed internships, advanced training and training at the undergraduate and graduate schools of Nagoya University is now in the tens, and three employees of the Tashkent State Technical University successfully defended their dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Sciences.
Today there are already proposals to create the Association of Alumni of the Nagoya University in Uzbekistan. In addition, in this, of course, the great merit of the rector of Nagoya University, respected Matsuo Seiichi, his good and friendly attitude to Uzbekistan, to the Tashkent State Technical University.
Turabjanov S.M. emphasized that he once again established himself in the opinion that this friendship would bring cooperation between our countries in the field of scientific and technological progress and university education to a new higher level.
All participants of the Academic Council supported the proposal of the rector of TashSTU Turabjanov S. and voted unanimously to approve the draft Council decision on the matter.
Expressing satisfaction with the opportunity to join his voice in gratitude for his dedicated work, for his enormous contribution to the development of education and science, for invaluable achievements in the training of highly qualified personnel, the chairman of the Academic Council of the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov, Professor S. Turabjanov announced the decision of the Scientific Council of December 7, 2019:
1. Assign the title of Honorary Rector of Tashkent State Technical University to the President of Nagoya University Seichi Matsuo.
2. In the Uzbek-Japan innovation center of youth of Tashkent State Technical University, allocate a separate room for President Seiichi Matsuo and organize his research and innovation laboratory. In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the rector of TashSTU S.Turabjanov as part of the delegation of Uzbekistan, he visited Japan from December 12 to 17, 2020.
On December 13, 2020, in the capital of Japan, Tokyo, in the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan, Mr. G.G. Fazylov, the ceremony of conferring the title of Honorary Rector of the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov with the presentation of the Diploma to the President of Nagoya University, Professor Seiichi Matsuo, was held in a festive atmosphere.
At the ceremony, the President of Nagoya University, Honorary Rector of Tashkent State Technical University Seiichi Matsuo spoke, who noted that Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of relations between the two countries and two higher educational institutions, especially in the field of science and education.
